We Bought A House!
We are now officially grown ups.
For the past year or two, Matt and I have been looking for a house. Finding a flat home or apartment that is affordable is a lot harder than you think. We talked about moving down to St. George. It seems that there are plenty of homes down there that are flat. Plus the weather is much better for me (no snow). But every time we went down to look at houses, they were either in really crappy shape or way too expensive.
Once my family bought Great Basin Graphics, we knew that we would be staying in Cache Valley for a while. One day, we just checked the market, and a new listing was posted. We quickly went and saw the home and both agreed that it would be good for us. During the entire buying process, we got more and more excited.
It's a 3-bedroom, one-level home, with a 2-car garage. It's not fully handicap accessible, but is very close to being so. The lady that lived in the house before us had 3 dogs, and the house definitely smelled like it. Everything in the house was bright pink, with an occasional blue: the walls, the ceilings, the doors, the outlets, etc. There were hanging baskets everywhere and the lawn looked like a floral mess.
We were really excited for this small fixer upper.
We (mainly Matt), took out and replaced the carpet in the bedrooms, and put in new hardwood floors in the family room and kitchen. We replaced half of the baseboards. We painted all the walls, ceilings, doors, and cabinets. We got new hardware for the majority of the house. We got a new toilet, and all new light fixtures.
It's been a crazy couple of weeks but we are officially in the home and in the phase of un-boxing everything. We are still in the process of getting some things done, like painting the baseboards, doing touch up paint, and eventually getting the lawn taken care of. We do have future plans for the house as well like getting new countertops, putting in a backsplash, getting new furniture, and making it more handicap friendly.
A HUGE thank you to my family and friends for helping with the house and helping watch Cali. This was not only a fun project for my husband and I to do together, but we are both really excited to have a place to call home. We hope to create many wonderful and exciting memories here.
We will hopefully have some before and after pictures of the home coming in a future blog post.
