ARTS & CRAFTS
I was the Art Club Supervisor for an after school program at a local middle school.
Here are just a few of the projects my student's worked on.
Grid Drawings
Grid drawings are fun and really easy to do, you just have to have patience. I find them really relaxing and enjoyable.
My art club kids got really nervous about them because they thought they looked really hard to do and wanted to give up before even trying. They kept saying to me, after seeing my examples (to the left), "mine will never look as good as yours." I proved them wrong. :)
Grid drawings may look hard but the kids were so proud of their work when they were finished. Every one of them said that they really enjoyed this project and some even said that this was one of their favorite projects. I love hearing positive feedback about the projects and I'm really glad they enjoyed themselves. This is definitely a project I will do again and again.
I think they did an amazing job! What do you think? (see below).
Nail & String Art
Another favorite by everyone in art club. I love this project because it's somewhat cheap, and it takes a long time so the kids really put some effort into it.
The kids chose their words, printed them, and cut their boards to size. I took them home, sanded them, and stained them. Over the next two weeks, the kids nailed they're words to the board and strung the string around the nails to fill in their letters. This is another project I will definitely do again next year.
Painted Stained Glass
For this project, I had found and made some designs, printed them, and had them ready for the kids to choose from. From roses and flowers, to animals, to landscapes, etc. I just bought some 8 x 10 inch frames from the dollar store. I poured some black paint into bottles of Elmer's Glue, and mixed it with a skinny wooden dowel.
Day One: The kids placed their designs under the glass and traced the design with the black glue; it dried over night.
Day Two: I had pre-mixed different colors of paint with clear Elmer's Glue before hand. The kids then painted on their colors as desired; it dried over night.
The kids really liked this project. Some did multiple, some did smaller 5 x 7 inch ones.
